Take Main Street from Santa Maria (Hwy 166 West) and drive West to Highway 1. Make a left (South) on to Hwy 1 and drive approximately 2 miles to Brown Road and turn West. Drive approximately 4 miles to the intersection of Brown and Pt. Sal Roads.

The hike is about 11.5 miles r/t if you go clear to the North end of the beach and back. Many folks do the “front side” to the VAFB gate and back.. about 5.0 miles r/t. While there are obvious ‘trespass’ trails along the way, the only legitimate route is to stay on the old road.
